It is really a way to have students answer on their level of understanding! I've been trying to learn Greek for 2 years and I still can't understand or speak it very well! What I will do for the start of the next unit (I teach French) is to solicit suggestions of vocab the students want to learn (I will ask for 5 suggestions from each student).
